What do I need for my Scout?

The Cub Scout uniform has the following parts:

Shirt—The official uniform shirt is available with long or short sleeves and has button-flap pockets and "Boy Scouts of America" lettered in gold above the right pocket.
-Pack 354 requires the official BSA uniform shirt, tucked in while wearing.

Neckerchief—Triangular neckerchief is orange with navy-blue trim for Tigers, gold with navy-blue trim for Wolf Scouts, light blue with navy-blue trim for Bear Scouts, and plaid for Webelos Scouts. Official BSA neckerchiefs are the only neckerchiefs that boys should wear.
-Pack 354 requires a neckerchief appropriate to rank upon joining, and will present advancing scouts with their next neckerchief during a graduation ceremony at the end of the Scouting year.

Neckerchief slide—Official gold-tone metal slide with the Tiger, Cub Scout (a wolf), or Webelos Scout logo. Boys may wear handmade neckerchief slides.
-Pack 354 requires a neckerchief slide, but states the Cub Scout slide is accepted to use throughout a cub scouting career.

Belt—Official navy-blue web belt with metal buckle and Tiger, Cub Scout (a wolf), or Webelos Scout emblem.
-Pack 354 requires an official belt to hold belt loop awards, but states the Cub Scout buckle is accepted to use throughout a cub scouting career.

Trousers or shorts—Official blue "Switchback" or similar.
-Pack 354 requires blue pants, but you may substitute other pants for comfort reasons that are the same shade as the official uniform shirt. Holes and rips are not allowed on any pants.

Scout Handbook—Official scout handbook appropriate to rank. (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Arrow of Light/Webelos)
-Pack 354 requires a handbook appropriate to rank upon joining, and will present advancing scouts with their next handbook during a graduation ceremony at the end of the Scouting year.

Socks—Official socks are available in three lengths: ankle, crew, and knee. Tigers' socks are navy blue with orange tops. Cub Scouts' socks are navy blue with gold tops.
-Pack 354 states that the socks are optional. Cub scout socks (blue & gold) are acceptable even for Tigers to save from buying socks again.

Cap—Official navy-blue cap with orange front panel and tiger cub emblem for Tigers; yellow panel and wolf emblem for Wolf Scouts; blue panel and bear emblem for Bear Scouts. Webelos Scouts wear an olive cap with a plain panel bearing the Webelos logo.
-Pack 354 states that the cap is optional, but if worn, must always be worn forward.

The Webelos Scout uniform has the following differences:

Webelos Scouts may choose to wear either the blue Webelos uniform based on the Cub Scout uniform or the tan/olive uniform similar to the one that Boy Scouts wear.
For the tan/olive uniform, boys wear the official Boy Scout olive trousers or shorts and official Boy Scout tan long- or short-sleeved shirt with blue shoulder loops. Official blue socks (with gold tops) are worn with the blue uniform, and official olive socks (with red tops) are worn with the tan/olive uniform.
With either uniform, all Webelos Scouts should wear the Webelos neckerchief (plaid with the Webelos emblem), Webelos neckerchief slide (handmade slides are also acceptable), Webelos cap, and Webelos belt buckle.

Insignias:

You may purchase a uniform with patches already sewn on from the scout store. It will come with:

U.S. flag emblem- cloth, red, white, and blue. Pre-sewn on every Cub Scout Uniform Shirt
Council shoulder emblem- We are in the Baltimore Area Council.
The World Crest Emblem & Ring- These are two separate badges.

You will still need additional emblems that are not pre-sewn on. they are:

Unit number- We are Pack "354". You will receive a pre-made unit number when you join. (Three separate numerals if you wish to purchase at the scout shop.)
Den Number- Your Den number will be determined by what rank you are and the patch itself will be given when you join.

Additional awards and insignias will be awarded over the course of the year.

We do not recommend "Badge Magic" to attach insignias as it does not always hold up and is nearly impossible to remove from a uniform.

Please see attached guide for proper placement of Cub Scout Insignias.

Official BSA Policy on Uniforms

Just as a sports uniform identifies a boy with a team, the Scout uniform identifies a boy with the largest voluntary youth movement in the world.  The Scout uniform tends to diminish the importance of a person’s financial, social, and ethnic background, while clearly showing each individual’s scouting accomplishments.  By dressing alike, Scouts show they are equals.
As quoted from the Handbook for Boys, 3rd Edition, 1927; “….putting on the uniform does not make a fellow a Scout, but putting on the uniform is a sign to the world that one has taken the Scout obligations and folks expect Scout-like acts from one wearing it”. There are MANY benefits to having our Scouts in complete BSA uniform.

The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. Its uniforms help to create a sense of belonging. They symbolize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification and commitment.

Personal equality. The uniform represents a democratic idea of equality; bringing people of different racial, economic, religious, national, ethnic, political, and geographical backgrounds together in the Scouting tradition.

Identification. The uniform identifies youth and adult members of the Boy Scouts of America, visible as a force for good in the community. When properly and smartly worn, the uniform can build good unit spirit. When worn on the correct occasions, it can attract new members.

Achievement. The uniform shows the wearer’s activity, responsibility, and achievement. What each youth or adult member has accomplished with program opportunities can be recognized by the insignia worn on the uniform.

Personal commitment. The uniform is a constant reminder to all Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturers, and adults of their commitment to the ideals and purpose of the Boy Scouts of America. The uniform encourages them to take Scouting seriously because of the investment in uniforms by parents of youths and by adults. The uniform is a way of making visible members’ commitment to a belief in God, loyalty to country, and helping others at all times.

The leaders of Scouting—both volunteer and professional—promote the wearing of the correct complete uniform on all suitable occasions.

If you would like to verify the correct use of a BSA uniform, please take a look at the Uniform Inspection Sheets attached below.

Pack 354 Uniform Policy

For the 2017-201778 Scouting year, Scouts and Adult Leaders wear complete BSA uniform to all Pack Meetings, when traveling to and from campouts, to all “day outings”, community service projects, and any activities where we will be in the public eye.

Scouts and registered adult volunteers have 60 days after registration to meet the uniforming requirement.

At Den Meetings or various other activities, Scouts may be directed by their Den leader or Cubmaster to wear a “Class B” activity uniform. This is a Pack 354 or other scouting related t-shirt (short or long sleeved) without the neckerchief. The Pack supplies one Class B t-shirt when joining Pack 354. Additional shirts may be purchased for parents or other boys for $10.00. When wearing the Class B uniform, it also includes the Scout “Switchback” shorts or trousers w/ belt, and scout socks.

Local sources for BSA Scout uniform and supplies are, as of 2016, 3 Year-round local Scout shops around the Baltimore area..
